It's time to bring in a search firm. Now What?

How will you know which will be best for you? What questions should you be asking?

Here's a few helpful questions to ask when selecting a search firm (so you can get back to peak performance).

Who is going to be handling our search?
Do they conduct themselves with professionalism and integrity with clients as well as job seekers? Are they someone you want helping you build your team?

Do they have a track record in the occupation or industry we're hiring in?
Remember career advertising alone doesn't work – so find out what other avenues they will be pursuing. Do they have the tools and track record to penetrate your industry and confidentially access the A-level players you want on your team?

Do they offer individual assessment or team-building tools?
Essential value-added services go a long way in building professional alliances. Look for firms offering skills and behavioural assessments, assistance in best management practices and new employee on-boarding. Another essential service most companies have a need for at one time or another include temporary and contract staffing services.

What happens after the search is completed?
A good search consultant will have a strong professional relationship with both your new hire and the hiring managers. Be sure your search consultant provides on-going follow-up and confidential de-briefing to ensure that concerns are effectively addressed in the critical first three to six months of employment.

Are they savvy enough to say no?
